Abstract
PURPOSE:To make the casting surface of the top surface beautiful by partly shielding the opening of a mold to a tundish thereby regulating the aperture ratio according to the wall thickness of an ingot in the case of horizontally and continuously casting a platelike cast iron casting. CONSTITUTION:The opening part of a graphite mold 8 for a tundish is partly shielded by hooking an L-shaped brick to the top surface of the mold. If the cross sectional area of the mold is defined as S1, and the cross sectional area of the opening part after the shielding as S2, these are difined as aperture ratio =S2/S1X100%, and this aperture ratio is regulated to about 0-50% according to the wall thickness of the ingot.
