Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform oxidation scrubbing liquid easily and quickly by adding iron oxide to the scrubbing liquid thereby oxidizing the SO3 ions, HSO3 ions contained therein in scrubbing and removing the SO2 in waste gases by using an aq. NaOH soln.
CONSTITUTION: Waste combustion gases contg. SO2 1 are introduced into a scrubbing tower 2 from its lower part, and an aq. NaOH soln. is sprayed from the upper part, whereby the SO2 in the waste gases is dissolved in the scrubbing liquid as SO3 and HSO3 and clean air is released into the atmosphere through a stack 5 by an exhauster 4. In this case, the scrubbing liquid contains Na ions and SO3 ions owing to dissolution of SO2 and is recirculated to the tower 2 as scrubbing liquid of below 90°C and 7.5W12pH by a pump 3. When the pH value lowers by absorbing SO2, a concd. aq. soln. 7 of NaOH and water is added to control the pH, and part of the scrubbing liquid is subjected to aeration oxidation by air bubbles in an aerator 10. At the same time, iron oxide 13 such as scale is added to oxidize the SO3 ions and HSO3 ions quickly and decrease COD value, after which it is discharged.
