Abstract

Thus far it has been possible to reduce the NOx fraction or SO2 fraction in flue gas. In the washing method with lime or limestone, the based spaces that formed the drawback or the use of a catalyst has resulted in high costs. The task of the process according to the invention is to increase profitability with respect to environmental protection in such installations. The core of the invention lies in the fact that all oxidizable components in the waste gas or used air are oxidized by means of an oxidation agent, for example, chromium(VI) and at the same time all acid components are brought into solution, in which the oxidization agent chromium(VI) is reduced to chromium(III). This washing solution is then processed by extraction or distillation producing an economically valuable product. Practically speaking, all the desulfurized flue gases simultaneously freed from other harmful substances no longer burden the environment on this account. In an electrochemical cell 14 the formed chromium(III) can be reoxidized to chromium(VI) and returned to the system.
