Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the desulfurization performance which is stable against the change in the pH of an absorbing liquid slurry by blowing air into the absorbing liquid having lowered pH by absorbing gaseous SO2 in an absorption column, thereby oxidizing sulfurous acid radicals to sulfuric acid radicals.
CONSTITUTION: The limestone slurry absorbing liquid cooled in a cooling column is supplied into an absorption column 2. In the column 2, it is allowed to make gas- liquid contact between the absorbing liquid and exhaust gases, whereby the sulfurous acid gas in the gases is converted into calcium sulfite. The absorbing liquid having lowered pH to 4W5 as the result of absorption of SO2 gas is mixed with air by using an ejector 6 or the like, whereby calcium sulfite is oxidized to calcium sulfate. Alternatively, it is also possible to carry out oxidation by providing a perforated plate 5 to the upper part of a circulating tank 4, attenuating the mixed flow owing to the stirrer 7 in the tank 4, once storing the absorbing liquid just after emitting from the column 2 in the upper part of the tank 4 and mixing air into this absorbing liquid with the ejector 6 or the like.
