Abstract

PURPOSE: A suspension containing calcium sulfite is adjusted to a specific pH and over a specific temperature and a gas containing oxygen is passed through to produce gypsum with a simple facility in low costs.
CONSTITUTION: A suspension containing calcium sulfite that is excluded from the sulfur dioxide absorption column in the wet lime-gypsum desulfurizer for disposing the exhaust gas from boilers is combined with calcium carbonate or slaked lime to adjust the pH to over 6.5. After neutralization, the suspension is heated up over 60°C and fed into the oxidation columen into which a gas containing oxygen gas, generally air is blown to produce gypsum.
