Abstract

PURPOSE: To make cyan-contg. waste harmless and solid at a low cost by causing the cyan-contg. waste to react in the presence of calcium components and silicic acid components in a steam autoclave maintained under acidic gaseous atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of treating cyan-contg. waste in a steam autoclave in the presence of calcium components and silicic acid components, an acidic gas is introduced into the autoclave to maintain an acidic atmosphere, in which the waste is allowed to react, whereby it is made solid and harmless. Creation of the acidic atmosphere in the autoclave simply necessitates substituting the inside of the autoclave with an acidic gas such as air, oxygen or chlorine then feeding steam therein and pressurizing the same. Quicklime, slaked lime, calcium carbonate and the like are used for the calcium components and silicate, zinc silicate and the like are usable for the silicic acid components.
