Abstract

PURPOSE: To convert cyanide-contng. solid waste into a harmless cake, by adding an oxidizing agent into the cyanide-contng. solid waste in the presence of a calcium component and a silicate component, and treating the mixture in a steam autoclave.
CONSTITUTION: Cyanide-contng. solid waste in mixed with a calcium component, e.g. quick lime, slaked lime, calcium carbonate or the like, and a silicate component, e.g. a silicate, clay or the like. One or more of hydrogen peroxide, silver oxide, peroxide or hypochlorite are further added and mixed with the mixture in an amount of 5W30% of theoretical amount necessary for the complete cxidation of the cyanide. The mixture may be granulated by a granulator, if necessary. The mixture is then charged into a steam autoclave, and heated and reacted, so that the decomposition of the cyanide and caking of the solid waste can be done at once.
