Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove ammonia content from fly ash with high efficiency, by adding water to fly ash which was modified by addition of an alkali so that the pH of a solution prepared by dissolving 1g of the ash in 100ml of water will be 10 or higher, and deaerating the fly ash.
CONSTITUTION: An alkali 3, e,g., quick lime, slaked lime, limestone or the like, is added to fly ash to modify the ash so that the pH of its aqueous solution obtained by adding 1g of the ash to 100ml of water will be 10 or higher. The fly ash is then introduced into a reactor 3, where it is mixed and reacted with water under an agitating condition to liberate ammonia. Ammonia-contg. exhaust gas is introduced through a pipe line 8 into a ammonia recovery tower 5, where the ammonia content is separated by adsorption before the exhaust gas is discharged into the air, or reused as a reducing agent to be fed to the exhaust gas-feed line 11 of an ammonia- reducing denitrifier 10.
