Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove ammonium salts from a coal ash efficiently at low cost by a method wherein an alkaline substance such as slaked lime and water are added to the coal ash collected by a dust collector, and the resulting mixture is agitated in a forced draft to decompose the ammonium salts.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gases generated from a coal-fired boiler 10 are introduced into a denitrifying device 20, with ammonia mixed into the exhaust gases through a line a on the upstream of the device 20. The exhaust gas thus denitrified and then cleared of dusts is discharged through a line b, while the collected coal ash collected with ammonium salts adhered thereto is introduced into a humidifier 50 through a line e and is humidified by adding an aqueous solution f of an alkaline substance such as slaked lime, followed by continuously discharging through a line g. The humidifier 50 is attached with a line c for connecting to a blower 60 and a forced draft is provided in the interior of the humidifier 50, so that gaseous ammonia formed through a reaction is rapidly removed from the humidifier 50.
