Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance catalytic activity in the process of denitrifying a waste gas containing NOX and SOX in presence of an SOX resistant reduction catalyst with NH3, by activating said catalyst by contacting it with SO3 in advance.
CONSTITUTION: Combustion gas exhausted from combustion apparatus 1 is introduced to SO2 oxidizer 2 through flue 11, and part of SO2 is converted into SO3 with an SO2 oxidation catalyst packed. This gas is led to NOX reduction apparatus 3 through flue 12, and NH3 necessary for reduction of NOX is mixed with a gas flow from line 21. NOX is reduced to N2 with NH3 by the packed catalyst. The gas is led to air preheater 4 through flue 13, after heat exchange through flue 14 to electrostatic precipitator 5, and the gas freed of dust is exhausted through flue 15 to a smokestack. This system permits activity of the denitrification catalyst to be kept high against ageing, and in addition humidification of SO3 produced to keep dust collection efficiency high
