Abstract

In the purification of flue gases from sulphur dioxide by flue gas desulphurisation using calcium hydroxide as absorbent, a sulphite-containing waste is obtained. The sulphite is then oxidised to sulphate in the form of anhydrite. In this case, a rotary oven receives the sulphite-containing waste and there are devices to feed the flue gas having excess air in cocurrent with the waste through the oven with oxidation of sulphite to anhydrite. The anhydrite can be used, inter alia, in the production of cement.
