Abstract
PURPOSE:To elevate the frequency characteristic, output magnetic field and reliability, by polishing the sliding surface of a recording medium of a head, and after that, plating the end of a thin film magnetic substance on the sliding surface with a magnetic substance having the same quality, and making the polished surface even. CONSTITUTION:In an MR head 1, an MR magnetic material 3 and a conductive material are formed on a nonmagnetic substrate 2, and after that, a protective plate 5 is joined through an adhesive agent 10. Subsequently, the sliding surface of a recording medium is formed by polishing it up to the A-A line. After that, in order to get rid of unevenness of 1-2mu on the polished surface, a magnetic material (NiFe, NiCo, etc.) having the same composition as that of the magnetic material 3 is plated while applying a magnetic field, and a smooth sliding surface having the same magnetic anisotropy as that of the magnetic material 3 is formed. In this way, the space to the magnetic recording medium is made uniform, a spacing loss is reduced, and an MR head which is large in an output magnetic field and excellent in a frequency characteristic is obtained.
