Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce film thickness dependency of a magnetic characteristic to obtain a high-recording density medium for vertical magnetization recording, by providing a two layer-structure recording layer, where a ferrormagnetic Co-Cr layer is formed by sputtering with a nonmagnetic Co-Cr layer as the ground layer, on the substance.
CONSTITUTION: A nonmagnetic Co-Cr layer including Cr of 25 atom % or more is fomed by sputtering on a substance (for example, a polyimide film of a film thickness of approximately 25μ), and next, a ferromagnetic Co-Cr layer is formed on this layer by sputtering, thus obtaining a magnetic recording medium.
