Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an oxidation catalyst having high catalytic activity at a low temp. and a long life, in kneading electrolytic manganese dioxide and a hydraulic carrier and hardening the obtained kneaded mixture, by irradiating microwave.
CONSTITUTION: An eletrolytic manganese dioxide particle having an appropriately adjusted particle size and a hydraulic carrier such as Portland cement or the like are compounded and the obtained compound is kneaded along with water and, thereafter, the resultant mixture is molded in to a desired shape. Subsequently, the obtained molded object is hardened by irradiating microwave with frequency of about 109W1012Hz. Said microwave is irradiated intermittently according to one patterns wherein, for example, irradiation is carried out for about 10W20sec and stopped for about 5W10sec and under a condition of about 400°C or less. The resultant catalyst has excellent catalytic activity and effectively oxidizes and decomposes a harmful gas such as carbon monoxide or the like or a malodorant gas, a solvent vapor or the like such as acetaldehyde, ammonia, mercaptan or the like discharged from a process of various manufacturing industries.
