Abstract

PURPOSE: To accelerate the reaction of ozone and malodorous components and perfectly decompose unreacted ozone by using a catalyst carrying metals/metal oxides on a carbon-base carrier.
CONSTITUTION: Ozone is supplied to waste water to decolor the waste water, thence the unreacted ozone in the abovementioned process is mixed and reacted with the malodorous gas evolved from the waste water, whereby the malodorous gas is deodorized. Further, the unreacted ozone and malodorous gas in this process are passed through a carbon-base carrier catalyst carrying metals/metal oxides, whereby the reaction of the ozone and the malodorous gas is accelerated and the remaining ozone is perfectly decomposed. Here, the catalysts prepd. by carrying respectively one or more of metal oxides of vanadium, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, silver and zinc on catalyst carriers consisting of carbonaceous materials such as, for example, granular, fragmented and powdery active carbon, graphite and carbon fibers is enumerated as the carbon-base carrier catalyst.
