Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve catalyst activity of a catalyst by treating a catalyst obtained by combining a catalyst of metallic oxide such as MnO2 with calcium aluminate, with organic acid and inorganic acid.
CONSTITUTION: A metallic oxide catalyst, such as NnO2, and calcium aluminate as a binder are kneaded with water and then the mixture is formed in, e.g., a honeycomb shape by a die. This formed body is cured and dipped in organic acid such as acetic acid and oxalic acid, and inorganic acid such as hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. Lime produced on the surface of the catalyst after said formed body is cured is dissolved with the acid and a new point of catalyst activity is generated, so catalytic activity is improved.
