Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve productivity and lower costs by adding a small amt. of a cellulosic thickener in producing a catalyst for removal of harmful gases such as CO by molding a metallic oxide catalyst and heat resistant aggregate with calcium aluminate as a binder. CONSTITUTION:As a catalyst for purification of gases contg. harmful components such as CO and hydrocarbons by oxidation, a cellulosic thickener such as methyl cellulose, methyl ethyl cellulose or the like is mixed at 0.1-1.0wt% with a mixture of, for example, 40-60wt% metallic oxide catalyst such as MnO2, 10-30wt% heat resistant aggregate such as SiO2 and 20-40wt% calcium aluminate as a binder. Water is added at 20-30pts.wt. to 100pts.wt. this mixture, and these are thoroughly kneaded and the mixture is molded to a honeycomb shaping having a large number of vent holes. This molding is placed on porous planking and is set in an atmosphere of 50-90 deg.C and 80% relative humidity, after which water is added thereto and the molding is cured. Since the releasing of this molding from honeycomb dies can be made in a short time by the use of the thickener, productivity is improved.
