Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively decompose nitrogen oxides for denitrification of high-SOx waste gas (or exhaust gas) by using a catalyst which is excellent in mechanical strengths such as wear resistance, pressure resistance, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A gas containing NOx, SOx, and dust is brought into contact with a catalyst composed of platinum, vanadium, etc., as the main components having a catalytically reductive capability for nitrogen oxides in the presence of ammonia of a proportion of 0.6W2mol on the basis of NOx present in the gas and oxygen of approx. 0.5vol% or more. The catalyst has a heat-resistant and SOx-proof inorganic base support made of cordierite, mulite, etc., having a pore diameter of within 0.1W10μ practically, a total pore volume percent (occupied by 0.1W5 micron-diameter pores) of 70% or more, a total pore volume of 0.15cc/g or more, a water absorbability of 15wt% or more, and a specific surface area of within 0.05W 1m2/g range.
