Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve productivity in production of a catalyst by adding a powder thickener to catalyst raw materials in producing the honeycomb shaped oxidation catalyst consisting of a metallic oxide catalyst, heat resistant aggregate and calium aluminate.
CONSTITUTION: As a catalyst for purification of harmful components such as CO hydrocarbons in waste gases by oxidation, a thickener of cellulosic type is added in the form of powder at 1.0W1.5wt% to 40W60wt% a metallic oxide catalyst such as, for example, MnO2, 10W30wt% heat resistant aggregate such as SiO2 and 20W40wt% calcium aluminate. Water is added at 25W35pts.wt. to 100pts.wt. this mixture, and these are quickly kneaded. This mixture is premolded to a plate shape, after which it is introduced into molding dies and is molded to a honeycomb shape. Then, a large amt. of water can be used since the thickener is in the form of powder, thus the kneaded matter does not harden, and has a long pot life, and this is convenient for mass production.
