Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable to effectively remove AlO3 based inclusions contained in a molten steel by specifying the Al2O3 content, the CaF2 content and the CaO/SiO2 ratio of a previously melted type or sintered type flux for deoxidizing iron or steel.
CONSTITUTION: The flux for deoxidation consists of not more than 15wt% of Al2O3, 5W30wt% of CaF2 and the balance of CaO plus SiO2, with the CaO/SiO2 ratio restricted to within the range of 0.35W0.93 or 2.8W4.0. This flux composition has an Al2O3 content and the CaF2 content appropriately specified in such a CaO/ SiO2 region as to provide a high absorbing capability for α-Al2O3 and it is capable of contributing to an enhancement of the efficiency and rate of refining in an injection method or the like.
