Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform effective dephosphorization and desulfurization having no losses of Cr components by adding flux consisting of CaCl2 or MgCl2, alkaline earth metal oxide and chromium oxide to Cr-contg. molten iron.
CONSTITUTION: As an oxidizer for dephosphorization of molten iron contg. ≥3% Cr, a proper amount of chromium oxide is optimum, and its oxidation power is not so strong and it per se is reduced to Cr. However, Cr2O3 is of a high m. p., and therefore about ≤30% of the flux is required and it is added little by little together with flux consisting of one or more kinds of CaCl2, MgCl2 and alkaline earth metallic oxide, so that the oxidation of phosphorus and the rate of reduction thereof can follow up the rate of addition. As chromium oxide, Cr2O3 and CrO are usable; the former is stronger in oxidation power than the latter, and it is more desirable to preliminary reduce this to CrO by H2 or C. The alkaline earth metallic oxide is fixed at acidic P2O5 and the CaCl2 and MgCl2 are flux.
