Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve rate and workability of denitrification by a method wherein the concentration of carbon in an iron alloy containing molten chromium is specified, and the alloy is contacted with slug containing an alkali metal compound, an alkaline earth metal compound, an iron oxide, a nickel oxide, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The concentration of carbon in an iron alloy containing 3% or more of chromium is adjusted to 2% or more. The iron alloy is contacted with slug containing 1W30% of at least one (for example, CaO) of a carbonate, an oxide and a hydroxide of alkali metals, 30W70% of at least one (for example, CaF2) of a fluoride and a chloride of alkaline earth metals, 1W50% of at least one of oxides of iron and nickel, etc. at approximate 1500°C or higher in an amount of approximate 5W80kg per 1 ton of molten iron. According to this method, the loss by evaporation of the alkali metal compound is reduced as well as the cost of the slug. The formation of fumes and dust is decreased, denitrification rate is increased and denitrification products are easily separated.
