Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively improve the oxidation resistance of a Cr-contg. ferritic steel by reducing the amt. of S in the steel to remove inclusions based on MnS in the steel.
CONSTITUTION: The amt. of S in a ferritic steel contg. Cr≥1% is reduced to S≤ 0.003% to remove inclusions based on MnS in the steel. Simultaneously with the reduction one or more out of Ca, Mg, Y and rare earth elements are pref. added to convert S into sulfides or oxysulfides of the elements, whereby formation of MnS is effectively prevented to improve the oxidation resistance of the steel. Thus, a low Cr cheap steel can be obtd.
