Abstract

PURPOSE:To add Mn to molten steel at low cost for adjusting the Mn content of the molten steel by a method in which a Mn oxide as a Mn source is used and a Fe-Si substance is concurrently added, together with the Mn oxide. CONSTITUTION:In the addition of Mn to molten steel for adjusting the Mn content of the molten steel, a Mn ore or a slag generated in the manufacture of a Fe-Mn substance is used as a Mn source. At the same time, a Si-lean Fe-Si powder is added to the molten steel in order to reduce MnO and MnO2 present in Mn ore and Fe-Mn slag into Mn by Si present in the Fe-Si powder. Thus, without the need to use expensive Fe-Mn or Si-Mn substance, Mn is added to the molten steel at low cost by using inexpensive Mn ore or Fe-Mn slag.
