CONSTITUTION:A first process for supplying gaseous O or a solid O source such as mill scale sintered ore to hot iron to desiliconize it and a second process for dephosphorizing and decarburizing the desiliconized iron are separately carried out. In the second process, iron manganese ore is added to reduce the Mn source in the ore to Mn in molten steel. Thus, effective refining using a cheap Mn source can be carried out without using expensive ferromanganese.
