Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the discharge capacity of a battery by using a sulfuric acid electrolyte of high cncentration, and a positive grid made of an alloy which principally consists of lead and contains at least one element chosen from Zn, Ce and the like, and thereby producing an inactive electron-conducting layer between the grid and an active material. CONSTITUTION:A positive grid is prepared from an alloy which principally consists of lead and contains at least one element chosen from a group including Zn and Ce, such as a Pb-Sr-Al-Zn alloy or a Pb-Sr-Al-Ce alloy. As an electrolyte, an electrolyte containing 38-48wt% of sulfuric acid in a completely charged state is used.
