Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent any rapid deterioration of the capacity of an electrode by making part of the active material applied to a grid made of an expanded metal or the like, where the distance between the surface of the active material and the outermost surface of the grid is over a given value, to be over a given proportion to the entire active material. CONSTITUTION:An electrode is prepared by coating a grid 1 made of either an expanded metal or a punched metal with a paste 2. Part of the coating paste 2, where the distance between the surface of the paste 2 and the outermost surface of a crossing part 6 of a grid bone 5 is not less than 0.3mm., is made over 50% of the entire surface of the paste 2. As a result, the close contact between the active material and the interface of the grid 1 is improved, and the separation of the active material can be prevented. In addition, the diffusion of sulfuric acid into the interface of the grid 1 is minimized, and sulfuric acid concentration at the interface can be reduced. Consequently, any rapid deterioration of the capacity of the electrode in a slow discharge cycle can be prevented, and the life characteristics of the electrode can be improved to a large extent.
