Abstract
PURPOSE:To flatten the voltage of a battery by constituting the battery by use of a negative lithium electrode, a positive electrode prepared by forming a mixture layer consisting of manganese dioxide and lithium over a manganese dioxide layer, and a solid lithium-iodide electrolyte formed in the interface between the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode 1 made of lithium metal or its alloy, a positive electrode 4 prepared by forming a mixture layer 2 consisting of manganese dioxide and lithium iodide over a manganese dioxide layer 3, and a solid electrolyte which is made of a thin lithium-iodide layer 5 and is formed in the interface between the electrodes 1 and 4 are used in constituting a solid electrolyte battery. The mixture layer preferably consists of 2 parts of manganese dioxide and 1 part of lithium iodide by weight. For instance, a current collecting copper plate is placed in a metal mold, manganese dioxide is placed on the current collecting plate and is lightly pressed, and a mixture consisting of manganese dioxide and lithium iodide is placed on the former manganese dioxide and is pressed, thereby forming a positive electrode 4. After that, a negative lithium-plate electrode 1 and a current collecting plate are placed over the electrode 4, and they are pressed with a pressure of 3t/ cm<2>. Consequently, a battery which has a flat discharge characteristic and small voltage decrease at high voltage can be obtained by improving the diffusion of lithium ions contained in the positive electrode.
