Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a battery which is chracteristics of having small voltage reduction at high voltage by constituting the battery by use of a negative lithium electrode, a positive electrode made of a mixture cnsisting of lithium iodide and a metal oxide such as silver oxide, and a solid lithium-iodide electrolyte formed between these elctrodes. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode 1 made of lithium metal or its alloy, and a positive elctrode 2, which is prepared by mixing lithium iodide and at least one compound chosen out of silver peroxide, silver oxide, mercury oxide, nickel hydroxide, lead peroxide and lead oxide, are pressed and fixed together so as to make a thin layer 3 made of a solid lithium-iodide electrolyte to be formed between the electrodes 1 and 2, thereby constituting a solid battery. The molar content of lithium iodide preferably is 20-80% of the electrode 2. For instance, a current collecting plate is placed in a metal mold, a mixture consisting of HgO and LiI in a ratio by weight of alpha:1 is placed on the current collecting plate, and the mixture is lightly pressed. Following that, a lithium metal plate and another current collecting plate are placed on the mixture lightly pressed, and the entire metal mold is subjected to compression molding with a pressure of 3t/cm<2>. Consequently, a battery which has a flat discharge characteristic and small voltage decrease at high voltage can be obtained by improving the diffusion of lithium ions contained in the positive electrode.
