Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a tapered thread on the end of a pipe, by using a profiling cam moved by a stopper on the end face of the pipe, to rotate a cam ring for moving a chaser.
CONSTITUTION: A pipe 43 is rotated and moved forth toward a die head 10 by the chuck of a screw-cutting device so that a screw groove is cut on the peripheral surface of the pipe 43 by the tip of a chaser 12 and simultaneously a stopper 29 is pushed out of the body 11 of the die head 10 in the axial direction by the tip of the pipe 43. Because of the movement of the stopper 29, a rocking bar 23 swings about a shaft 27 to move a profiling member 22 in the axial direction. Since a blade guide 15 is energized in the circumferential direction by a spring, a profiling rod 34 is moved following the slide of the profiling member 22 so that the blade guide 15 slides relative to the die head body 11 in the circumferential direction. At the same time, a blade 17 also slides in the circumferential direction. The rotation and forward movement of the pipe 43 and the radial movement of the chaser 12 are thus simultaneously effected to provide a tapered thread on the pipe 43.
