Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the time required for grinding by a method wherein high- feeding rough grinding is performed at a higher speed than that of ordinary rough grinding before the rough grinding being made at an ordinary speed and, moreover, a grinder is kept constantly in touch with a ground object from the start to the end of grinding work.
CONSTITUTION: Rough grinding is performed by advancing a grinder 25 at the speed of high-feeding rough grinding and keeping the same in touch with a crank- pin part 17 of an object to be ground. And when the diameter of the crank-pin part 17 has turned to be a length set beforehand, the grinder 25 is made to retreat a little. Meanwhile, the grinder and the crank-pin part 17 are kept continuously in touch with each other since the elasticity of a crank shaft gives a force to the part 17 to return to its original position. After that, the grinder 25 and a steady-rest member 35 is advanced again to carry out precision grinding.
