Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure easily and safely concentrations of impurities in sodium by installing a holder for a reference sample and a heater in a vessel with openings for taking sodium in and out. CONSTITUTION:A gas inlet 24 and a gas outlet 25 are installed at the upper part of a sleeve 23 of a concentration measuring apparatus 21 which is inserted into a vessel 20. Sodium in the sleeve 23 is heated to a certain temperature by a heater 30, a thermocouple 33 and a temperature controlling device 34, and the density of this sodium becomes different from that of sodium 35 in the vessel 20. Then sodium flows into the sleeve 23 through an inlet 28 and flows out through an outlet 29 resulting natural convention, and the concentrations of impurities in sodium become equilibrium with those in a reference sample piece 31. This sample piece 31 which is soaked for a certain time is pulled out from sodium by opening a seal 27, and chemically analyzed. In this method, concentrations of impurities can be measured by simple procedures.
