Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the captioned heat exchanger small in size and to improve the heat exchange efficiency thereof by a method wherein primary and secondary coolants are introduced into a heat transfer pipe after they are applied to the inner and the outer surfaces of the heat transfer wall of the heat exchanger arranged opposite to a secondary coolant inlet of the heat exchanger in a liquid metal cooling type high speed reactor.
CONSTITUTION: The secondary coolant flowing into the inlet 8 runs against the center portion of the heat transfer wall 13 and flows down along the surface of the wall 13. On the other hand, the primary coolant flowing into an inlet 14 is injected from a nozzle 15 over the inner surface of the heat transfer wall 13 and flows down along the surface so that heat is exchanged between the primary and the secondary coolants. Then the primary coolant passes through communication holes 16 to flow down toward an outlet 17 along the outer surface of the heat transfer pipe 7 and the secondary coolant passes through a secondary coolant passage 10 to flow up toward an outlet 9 through the heat transfer pipe 7 from below. Thus, the primary and the secondary coolants exchange heat through the heat transfer pipe 7 and therefore, the heat exchanger can be made small in size and the heat exchange efficiency thereof can be improved.
