Abstract
PURPOSE: To upgrade the ductility, toughness and anisotropy of the steel material obtained, by adding a rare earth element containing material (REM) to molten steel in parallel with iron powder particles.
CONSTITUTION: While the molten steel in a ladle 1 is being supplied into a pouring pipe 4 as a casting stream 3, REM10 in a hopper 12 and the iron powder particles 20 in a hopper 22 are through shoots 11 and 21, respectively, added to and mixed with the casting stream 3. Before the molten steel with these materials added is supplied into a casting mold 7 or it is cooled to solidify in the casting mold 7, the REM10 and the iron powder particles 20 are molten and the REM bonds with S and O in the molten steel and is uniformly dispersed in the molten steel in the form of the REM-containing inclusion. Before the precipitation and collection phenomena of the REM-containing inclusions occur, the solidification of the molten steel is completed due to the solidification accelerating effect of the particles 20. Therefore, the form controlling effect of the REM-containing inclusions is upgraded and anisotropy, etc. in mechanical properties are improved.
