Abstract

1481631 Deoxidizing steel OVAKO OY 24 June 1974 [28 June 1973] 27877/74 Heading C7D [Also in Division B3] A finely divided deoxidizing agent of a particle size not more than 1À0mm, e.g. less than 0À05mm, in a metal casing, is fed continuously into a stream of molten metal in which the casing melts, the agent consisting, at least partially, of a composite deoxidizer containing at least two deoxidizing elements, such as Ca and Mn chemically bound together with Si. The molten stream falls into a continuous casting mould. For casting steel, the agent comprises an 80/20 mixture by'weight of the composite deoxidizer and a metallic deoxidizer such as Al packed in a steel tube. The casing need not be of the same material as the melt and it may be of Al to improve the melt properties.
