Abstract

1527054 S G iron production B C I R A 11 May 1977 [1 April 1976] 13171/76 Heading C7D [Also in Division B3] In the production of S.G. iron granular or powdered Fe-Si-Mg alloy is injected in a stream of gas into the stream of molten metal as it is poured into the mould. Preferred carrier gases are air or nitrogen. The injection may be continuous from the time the metal first enters the pouring sprue until the mould is full, the dispenser being automatically controlled by electronic sensors which detect the presence of metal in the sprue.
