Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the concentration of active sludge in an aeration vessel, perform high- load water purification and stabilize the quality of purified water, by returning concentrated sludge obtained by centrifugal separation of an effluent from the aeration vessel and sludge separated in a sedimentation vessel into the aeration vessel.
CONSTITUTION: An effluent from an aeration vessel 2 is introduced into a centrifugal separator 3 to concentrate sludge. A part of the concentrated sludge 9 is returned as returned sludge 5 to an active sludge-aerating step, while the remainder is discharged as excess sludge 7 outside the system. Concentration-separated water 8 is fed through a deaeration vessel 12 to a sedimentation vessel 4, and separated into a supernatant 10 and precipitating sludge 11. At least a part of the precipitating sludge is returned to the active sludge-aerating step. In this process, SS concentration in the separated water obtained by the centrifugal separation is maintained at about 8,000mg/l or less to raise SS concentration in the concentrated sludge 9. This process enables a flexible countermeasure in response to variation in load of waste water, and well-purified water can be obtained under a stable condition.
