Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily and efficiently replace a roll of a rolling mill under a condition that a steel strip is passed through the rolling mill, by interposing a spacer between upper and lower roll chocks on the operating side, by fitting a retainer ring into the operating side roll journals, and by widening the distance of the operating side roll journals by the use of a jacking mechanism. CONSTITUTION:At replacing a roll, jacking mechanisms 8, 9 are driven to descend, and a spacer 14 is interposed between the roll chocks 3, 6 on the operating side. A retainer ring 16 is fitted into the operating side roll journals of upper and lower rolls 2, 5. If a jack 17, installed in the lower part of the retainer ring 16, is elevated, the drum of the upper roll 2 and the driving side upper roll chock 4 are lifted up while the spacer 14 plays as the fulcrum. Under this condition, a truck 10 is moved so as to withdraw the lower roll 5 to the operating side. When a new roll is to be inserted, the retainer ring 16 and the spacer 14 are pulled away. By the present mechanism, the rupture of the steel strip 3 is prevented, and the steel strip 13 can be laid in the mill as it is, so that the yield of production and working efficiency are improved.
