Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain light oil in a high yield, by the hydrogenation cracking of petroleum heavy hydrocarbon oil in the presence of an Fe compound and S or a S compound.
CONSTITUTION: To petroleum heavy hydrocarbon oil (e.g. crude oil, shale oil), 0.1W20wt% catalyst obtained by mixing an Fe compound (e.g. iron oxide, hematite) with elementary S or an S compound (e.g. H2S, thiophen) in an equivalent ratio of S/Fe of 1.0W1.5 is added for the hydrogenation cracking of the oil under a hydrogen partial pressure of 50W300kg/cm2 at 380W480°C, and then the reactant is distilled under a reduced pressure to recover the catalyst along with an unreacted reduced pressure residual oil. Since the recovered catalyst has little coking and undergoes nearly no deterioration in its activity, it can be recycled for reuse.
