Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the yield of distillate oil in the pitch formation (or coking) of distillation residue oil, by adding an aqueous slurry of an alkaline earth metal hydroxide to the residue oil for reaction under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: In a method of pitch-forming (or coking) decomposition for distillation residue oil of petroleum, etc., in which the residue oil is decomposed by heating for pitch formation (or coking) and also for forming cracked gas and distillate oil, an alkaline earth metal hydroxide (e.g., calcium hydroxide) is added to the residue oil in a proportion of approx. 1/3mol of the basis of sulfur present in the residue oil, and then the mixture is decomposed under the condition of approx. 350W550°C and 1W20kg/cm2 (guage).
