Abstract

PURPOSE: To suppress the growth of mold-fungi, which would cause the generation of bulking, or destory grown-up bacteria, by dissolving 1W500ppm of hydrogen sulfide in active sludge being aerated to let the hydrogen sulfide selectively act on the filiform bacteria.
CONSTITUTION: Hydrogen sulfide, which is generated by adding an inorganic or organic acid to a water-soluble sulfide, is injected into active sludge being aerated under an acidic condition, to dissolve the hydrogen sulfide at a concentration of 1W500ppm. The hydrogen sulfide suppresses the growth of mold-fungi which would cause a bulking phenomenon and destroys grown-up bacteria. During aeration, the solution is preferably controlled at pH 3.5W4.5 to generate the hydrogen sulfide.
