Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a display of good color contrast having no turbidity in the nonelectrode parts of a CNT type liquid crystal display element by forming electrode patterns in insulation characteristic substrates, providing projecting parts by insulation films on the nonelectrode parts of electrode side surfaces thence forming colored films on the projecting parts. CONSTITUTION:Positive type resist is coated on the respective transparent conductive layers 22 on two sheets of glass substrates 21, and are exposed and developed, whereby resist layers 23 are formed. Next, with the layers 23 as a mask, the layers 22 are etched, after which a thermosetting silicone soln. is coated over the entire surface of the substrates and is allowed to set by heating, whereby insulation characteristic films 23 are provided. Colored films 25 of Cr or the like are formed on the films 23. Next, the films 23 are dissolved away by using methyl ethyl ketone or the like and the resist layers 4 and the films 25 on the films 23 are beforehand lifted off. In this way, the projecting parts 24 and the films 25 thereon are formed between the electrodes 22, whereby the electrode substrates 9, 9' shown in the figure are completed. Oriented films 3, 3' are applied respectively on the substrates 9, 9', and a liquid crystal 4 is sealed therebetween, whereby the X-Y matrix type liquid crystal display device is obtained.
