Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a storage type liquid crystal display element of good contrast by exposing and developing the photosensitive resin provided on electrode layers of reflection type liquid crystal substrates with nontransparent electrode layers as a mask from the rear side of the substrates thereby forming raised parts having colored films on the nonelectrode parts. CONSTITUTION:In the production of a memory type cholestericnematic phase transition type (CNT) liquid crystal display device, nontransparent electrodes 22 are formed of metallic Cr or the like on a glass substrate 21, after which a negative type photosensitive resin 23 is coated over the entire surface; further, a colored film 24 of metal such as Cr or pigments or the like is provided on the layer 23. Next, ultraviolet rays 25 are irradiated from the substrate 21 side, after which these are developed, whereby transparent resin projections 23' having a colored film 24' are formed on the nonelectrode surface on the substrate 21. Orientation films 3, 3' are formed on the respective electrodes 2, 2' and colored films 3, 3' of such electrode substrates 9, 9', and a liquid crystal 4 is sealed therebetween, whereby a display device 9 is made. The production of light scattering parts around the display picture elements is prevented by the projections 7, 7', and the good color contrast of the films 3, 3' is obtained. Hence, the good contrast having no turbidity in nonline parts is obtained.
