Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain superior display quality by providing a double layer consisting of a transparent pattern electrode and a light-shielding layer on the electrode on a transparent substrate, by covering the entire surfaces of the substrate and double layer with negative photosensitive resin, and by forming projected parts on the substrate surface by exposing and developing the resin from the substrate side. CONSTITUTION:With regard to a device which provides X-Y matrix display by using cholesteric-nematic phase transition type liquid crystal, transparent pattern electrode layer 22 is formed on transparent substrate 21 and then light-shielding coating 23 is formed over the entire surface of substrate 21 and etched to form light- shielding coating 23' on electrode layer 22. Thick negative photosensitive resin coating 24, formed on the entire surface of substrate 21, is exposed and developed from the substrate 21 side to form projected parts 24'. Coating 23 is made into a reflecting layer by using Al, etc., and used even as a reflective display device. Coating 23' may be etched off to expose electrode layer 22 for use as a transmissible display device. Thus, the light scattering occurring at the circumference of the display electrode is prevented to obtain excellent display.
