Abstract

PURPOSE: Titled composition which, after being cured, shows a high crosslinking density and excellent heat resistance and durability, comprising an epoxy resin and a specified resorcin novolak.
CONSTITUTION: A resorcin novolak, content of unreacted resorcin ≤10wt%, is prepared by reacting resorcin with an aldehyde in the presence or absence of a catalyst and removing the unreacted resorcin by vacuum distillation, washing or a like operation. Next an epoxy resin (A) having at least two epoxy groups in the molecule is mixed with the above resorcin novolak (B) as a curing agent in an amount such that the number of phenolic hydroxyl groups of component B is 0.5W 1.5 per epoxy group of components A.
