Abstract
PURPOSE: A novel type resin that is composed of a specific phenol component and an aldehyde component, with a molecular weight specified, thus increasing the heat- resistant and mechanical properties of a curable composition by adding it to one of various kinds of curable resins.
CONSTITUTION: The titled resin is composed of the phenol component containing 70W100mol% of a difunctional phenol of formula I (two among three R1s are H, the last one is 1W8C alkyl, 6W10C aryl, halogen, hydroxyl; R is H, 1W8C alkyl, halogen, hydroxyl) and 30W0mol% of a trifunctional phenol and of the aldehyde component of formula II [R2 is H, halogenated methyl or methyl]. The resin has a number average molecular weight of more than 1,500, which is measured by the osmotic method using N,N-dimethylactamide as a solvent. It is obtained by condensation reaction between a novolak type substituted phenolic resin and dimethylolated difuncitonal phenol in the presence of an acidic catalyst.
