Abstract

PURPOSE: To join steel material with good reproducibility by preliminarily setting the lower limit pressure that indicates proper re-pressing temperature for each time in shake-heating in gas pressure welding and stimulating re-pressing automatically when this pressure is arrived at and thereby completing pressure welding at a specified amount of compression.
CONSTITUTION: Steel material 1 to be pressure welded is fixed to a fixed piece 2 and a movable piece 3 respectively. A butted part of the steel material 1 is pressed in axial direction by thrusting a pressure ram 6 raising oil pressure of a hydraulic pump 4. The pressing force during the while is measured with a pressure gauge 8, and after making initial pressing at about 3.5W4.5kg/mm2, concentrated heating is made on the outer circumference of the butted part of the steel paterial 1 by a heating ring burner 7. After this initial pressure welding, initial pressing is discontinued and shifted to shake-heating using a burner, and heat uniformization is accelerated with temperature rise around the butted part. At this time, the part near the joint is deformed slowly to lower pressure. Accordingly, re-pressing is made at 3.5W4.5kg/cm2, and when specified amount of compression is attained, the burner 7 is put out and pressure is released to complete pressure welding.
