Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture a wide clad metal at high yield by rolling after making diffusion welding by keeping the space between base metals and ply metals in vacuum or nonoxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A sealing material 4 is welded between the lowest one and the highest one of ply metals 2 piled between upper and lower base metals 1 to form a sealed space. At the same time, a hole is made in a part of the sealing material 4, and connected to a vacuum evacuating device 7 through an exhaust pipe 6. The joint surface of the base metals 1 and ply metals 2 is kept vacuum by the vacuum evacuating device 7 and heated to required temperature by heaters 81, 82. Force is applied to the joint surface 3 by pressure devices 91, 92, and diffusion welding is performed. On the other hand, a part 6' of the exhaust pipe is heated by a torch 10 and when joining temperature is attained, small pressure devices 11, 11 are squeezed by hydraulic cylinders 12, 12 and cut. Then, the joined body is heated in a furnace, rolled, cut at the inside of the sealing material 4 and the edges are removed to obtain a finished product.
