Abstract

PURPOSE: To uniformly heat a pressure welding part and automatically perform gas pressure welding of high pressure-welding strength by heating the pressure welding part with a gas burner by correctly oscillating the same back and forth in said part, in subjecting two pieces of steel materials to gas pressure welding.
CONSTITUTION: Steel materials 1, 1 to be subjected to gas pressure welding are grasped respectively by a stationary grasping member 20 and moving grasping member 21 of a pressing means 2. Next, the clamping arm member 60 of a burner mounting device is clamped in such a way that a burner 10 is located on the butting surfaces of the materials 1, 1. The burner 10 is ignited, and working fluid is supplied to a hydraulic ram 22 to drive a driving motor M so that a hydraulic ram 22 forces both members 20, 21 to press the joined part of the material 1, 1. On driving of the motor M, the burner 10 heats the joined part of the materials 1, 1 while moving back and forth. The butt-joined part of the materials 1, 1 is softened by heating and is automatically and firmly joined when pressed.
