Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a weld zone by moving a moving electrode by the quantity of upsetting in the direction of a stationary electrode to weld the welding materials by pressure, and further moving the same in the direction of the stationary electrode thereby exerting pressing force in the direction of the shrinkage stress generated in the press weld zone. CONSTITUTION:A movable electrode 2 is driven in the direction of a stationary electrode 1 by an oil hydraulic cylinder 4, and at the time when the U point shifts to an upsetting stage via a flash stage, the voltage is interrupted and the electrode 2 is pressed in the direction of the electrode 1 by the driving force of the cylinder 4, whereby the cooling is effected on account of the deformation of the molten part of both welding materials 7, 8. When at this time the shrinkage stress by the cooling is generated in the press-weld zone, the electrode 2 is moved in the direction of this stress whereby pressing force in exerted upon the press-weld zone.
